MPPC 2019

Summary

From the 17 August to 18 August 2019, the International Council of Malaysian Scholars & Associates (ICMS) had officially organised their annual flagship; the Malaysian Public Policy Competition (MPPC) 2019. 25 teams had been shortlisted and invited to the competition itself but only 3 teams emerged victoriously; walking away with cash prizes. The event hosted more than 60 Malaysian youths from diverse educational backgrounds as well as several notable political figures such as Yang Berusaha Dr Waitchalla R. R. V Suppiah (Policy Division Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development) & Yang Berhormat Dr Ong Kian Ming (Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry).

The central theme of MPPC 2019 was ‘Shared Prosperity: Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide’, explored through sub-themes of closing the digital gap, minimising education inequality and levelling occupational opportunities. Over the two days, participants engaged in a host of activities including workshops and mentoring sessions in addition to pitching their respective policies. In the end, the Team Trinity emerged as the Champion of MPPC 2019, who proposed the policy of consolidation, localisation and co-location of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to close the urban-rural gap.
